Consumption of pasta has surged by nearly 100% in the last decade, reaching around 17 million tons globally. Italy emerges as the largest consumer and producer of pasta, accounting for over 61% of the country's total production, which was exported to over 100 countries in 2022. Exports, amounting to 3.7 billion euros, were predominantly to EU countries, with non-EU countries contributing 34.8% of the total. The most significant growth in demand was observed in Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, and Burma, with Canada, Poland, and other countries also showing notable increases. Italy's pasta is celebrated for its quality and sustainability, with a significant portion of pasta packages made in Italy being exported, increasing from 5% in 1955 to 60% in 2023.
