The SKY GATE bulk carrier is transporting 25,000 tons of humanitarian wheat from Ukraine to Nigeria, marking the first shipment of the year under the United Nations World Food Programme's Grain From Ukraine initiative. This programme, launched by President Volodymyr Zelensky in 2022, aims to alleviate hunger by providing food to countries in need. So far, 170,000 tons of wheat have been sent to Ethiopia, Yemen, Somalia, Kenya, and Afghanistan. The Ukrainian corridor has become a major route for Ukrainian agrarian products to reach global markets, with over 15 million tons of grain exported from Odesa ports in the past six months.
