Even though Peru has enough rice production to fulfill the local demand, the import of rice has increased up to 70% volume (from January to March 2020) when compared with the same period 2019 going from 49,120,442 Kg to 83,504,751 Kg. The most important suppliers were Brasil and Uruguay.

The Peruvian Association of Rice Producers - APEAR requested to local authorities the possibility to increase the tariff to those countries that shown disloyal trade (allegedly been financed by their governments).
