In the first two quarters of 2020, the export volume of packaged seasonings from Indonesia such as chili sauce, soy sauce, and fried red onion to Japan recorded a 200% growth compared to the same period last year. Chili sauce, in particular, was the most sought after commodity during this period as the local buyers favor it for its distinctive taste and relatively long shelflife. This record is considered by the representative of the Ministry of Trade (MOT) in Japan as a solid achievement considering the economy, in general, was in slowing down due to the coronavirus pandemic. In order to carry on this achievement to the end of 2020, the representative of MOT in Osaka has arranged webinar session that will feature national manufacturers to promote their products to the buyers in Japan in a series of events called Indonesian Food and Beverages Market Access that will be held mid-July 2020.
