Peanut is one of the major nut products grown in the Philippines, which is also being exported to Southeast Asian countries. However, its production has been low for the past few years. According to the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics (BAS), the top producing provinces in the country are Cagayan, Isabela, Pangasinan, La Union, Quirino, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Aurora, Albay, and Iloilo. Cagayan Valley produces almost half of the county’s total peanut output. Even if there is low production, the profit margin is still high for producers as the peanut is widely used in Filipino cuisine. There is no policy yet from the government to concretely help suppliers but it has encouraged suppliers to aggressively export and start selling peanuts internationally as there are a couple of provinces that can produce the product frequently, especially this year 2020.
