Due to implementation of stricter rules and regulations by the government, giant clams are not allowed to be exported. Fishermen are also not allowed to harvest giant clams due to total lockdown instructed by the local government units and because of the priority to preserve such product. Many giant clams have been harvested illegally and the government has restricted such activity until such time that they are able to assess whether or not giant clams are close to being wiped out in the region. Operations of such businesses are being closed as well. Thus, no export of giant clams will be done within this year 2020.
