The wholesale price of cherries in the Canadian wholesale market plunged around June 2021 and their values deteriorated this July. The lowest price in June can be found at the Montreal wholesale market at 6.19 USD per KG. Rainfall was recorded far below the normal threshold from the third week of April to July 2021. Even the rainfall in the last 3 months has not recovered and still shows a value below 100%. The heat wave has damaged the cherry crops and the degradation in quality has also been exacerbated since the cherries don't have time to cool down. The low quality of these commodities has cut prices far below their normal values. Meanwhile, the price of cherries in the domestic market also decreased during the same period. The obvious difference is that imported cherries are much more expensive than those sold in the US domestic market.
