Shaanxi Chengcheng cherries hit the market early, selling at 300 yuan/jin!

Recently, in Chengcheng County, located on the Loess Plateau in Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, the cherry facilities in the Ma Village Modern Agricultural Park have gradually matured and are being harvested. The cherries that are now ripe are cultivated using close planting methods, with cherry trees grown in control root bags moved to a cold storage in August. After a dormancy period of 1200 hours, they are transferred to a greenhouse for warming, leading to flowering and fruiting. On December 24, a local fruit farmer explained that this year, the trees underwent forced dormancy and warming earlier than usual, resulting in the cherries maturing about 10 days earlier than in previous years. The cherries from their own greenhouse have been on sale since the 15th, and on the 23rd, an agreement was reached with a client to sell the entire greenhouse's cherries at 300 yuan/jin, with an estimated income of around 140,000 yuan. Chengcheng County, under the jurisdiction of Weinan City, Shaanxi Province, is located in the eastern part of the Guanzhong Plain and the northeastern part of the Weibei Plateau, within the 35° latitude "golden belt" for cherry growth designated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. The county has deep loess soil, an average annual temperature of 12°C, an annual precipitation of 680 millimeters, and a frost-free period of up to 204 days, providing an excellent natural environment for cherry growth. Chengcheng County used to primarily grow apples, transitioning to cherry cultivation in the mid-1990s. After years of development, the area dedicated to cherry cultivation has reached 100,000 acres, with 80,000 acres bearing fruit, and an annual production of approximately 80,000 tons. By creating a tiered planting model that combines "intelligent greenhouses + early dormancy, sunlight greenhouses, steel-structured warm greenhouses, continuous cold greenhouses, and open-field farmland" with early, mid, and late-ripening varieties, Chengcheng cherries have been able to provide a continuous supply from January to June.
