The government of Indonesia through its Ministry of Agriculture is currently developing pesticide-free vegetable plantations in a number of regencies in Central Java province. The development of the new plantation areas would be done using the existing plantations that still belong to the government which then would be managed by registered farmers association. This initiative was taken to support the government's effort to promote an organic lifestyle to the national consumers to improve the health of these people in the long-run. Still, this move is believed to be challenging as the farmers in this region have been producing their crops using pesticide and chemical fertilizer for generations and one thing hinder the local farmers from producing all-organic agricultural products is the selling price of the products that usually would be significantly above the market price and the fact that it can only be afforded by very niche consumers demographic. In the early stage of the development, these plantations would be used to produce broccoli and eggplant, which is among vegetable commodities that are high in demand.
