Mango Report: Brazil 2023

Mango consumption worldwide is on the rise due to factors like health awareness, convenience, and versatility. In Brazil, however, mango production faced challenges in 2021/22 due to heavy rainfall, leading to a 15% YoY drop in exports in 2022. Despite this setback, the MAPA anticipates a promising 2022/23 season with an abundant amount of Brazilian mango due to favorable weather in H2-23.

Brazilian mango exports to the US declined by 70% from Jan to Jul 2023, primarily due to competition from Mexican mangoes and difficulties in meeting strict phytosanitary regulations. To combat fruit fly infestations, Brazil is adopting innovative technologies and prevention strategies, such as the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) and smart traps developed by startups like Tarvos. These technologies help growers monitor and control pest populations effectively.
