Peru's artisanal squid fishing industry, a key economic and social sector, has faced challenges, leading to the paralysis of ports and fishing plants. However, with the support of SONAPESCAL, the Ministry of Production, and boat owners, the industry has registered 150 vessels with the OROP-PS, an international fishing organization, allowing for international development and competition. This registration is seen as a significant step towards resilience and adaptation to the challenges faced by the sector. SONAPESCAL is calling for the publication of new squid fishing regulations and the importance of satellite monitoring for the artisanal fleet.
