The Cooperative Promotion Department and the Department of Agriculture in Thailand are partnering to introduce hemp seeds into the food, beverage, cosmetics, hemp seed oil, and animal feed industries. This comes as the government and Ministry of Health have allowed hemp cultivation due to increasing demand. The departments are planning to pilot hemp production in suitable cooperatives and have received interest from large industries. The cost of hemp seeds is around 5,000 baht per kilogram, while the production cost and potential profit per rai have been outlined. The ministry is also promoting marijuana as a new economic crop, educating about its cultivation, and conducting research on suitable strains for Thailand.
