(Jeju=Yonhap News) Reporter Go Seong-sik = 200 Jeju farmers will participate in a project to build agricultural data by writing farming diaries with their smartphones.
The Jeju Agricultural Technology Institute announced on the 2nd that 200 farmers will participate as partners in the integrated platform "Jeju DA (Digital Agriculture)," which was launched last month to systematically collect agricultural data.
The Jeju DA partners are producers of four supply-managed crops: open-field citrus, winter radishes, carrots, and cabbage, selected from 11 towns and townships across Jeju, reflecting age and gender.
Until July next year, they will record farming diaries of crop production and distribution on the Jeju DA platform-based app and provide feedback on user convenience and function improvements through quarterly roundtable discussions.
Jeju Governor Oh Yeong-hoon said at the launch ceremony held at the Jeju Welcome Center on the same day, "We will open an era where records from the agricultural field become data and data become policy," adding, "In the midst of crises such as weather anomalies, international disputes, and labor shortages, data and digital technology will become a new path for agriculture."
