[2026 New Year's Message] Hong Jong-wook, President of the Korean Fisheries Corporation

A hopeful 2026, the year of the Fire Horse (丙午年), has dawned. Just as the Red Horse gallops tirelessly across the vast land in this year of the 'Red Horse,' we wish for our fisheries and fishing villages to be filled with dynamic and robust energy throughout the year. Reflecting on the past year, our fisheries faced threats to their operational environment due to the climate crisis, and the existence of fishing villages was shaken by accelerating aging and population outflow. Just as the closer the darkness, the nearer the dawn, 2025 was a time to lay a solid foundation for change amidst the crisis, and 2026 will be a year of actual change sprouting and blooming on that foundation. This year, our agency bids farewell to conventional practices and aims to talk about the future of fishing villages in a new way.
