Bird flu has been detected at a turkey fattening farm in the German district of Cloppenburg. Official samples have tested positive for the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza virus at the Friedrich Loeffler Institute (FLI). The Cloppenburg district has implemented the necessary protective measures and is conducting investigations at neighboring farms. All approximately 20,500 turkeys have been culled. This is the first case affecting domestic birds in the province of Lower Saxony since April of this year, reports agrarheute.com. The Ministry of Agriculture of Lower Saxony urges farms to strictly adhere to biosecurity measures. Livestock owners who notice any abnormalities (e.g., increased mortality, reduced food and water intake, or decreased productivity) in their flocks must immediately report them to the veterinary service.
