The Australian Greens party has unveiled a $275 million agricultural policy focused on sustainable farming, carbon farming, and job creation. The policy includes a new $250 million sustainable agriculture research center and the restoration of a $25-million annual funding program for on-farm carbon projects. The Greens also intend to stimulate the hemp, cannabis, and seaweed sectors by investing $20 million to boost hemp production, remove regulatory barriers for hemp and medical cannabis, and invest $50 million in a seaweed cooperative research center to reduce methane emissions and improve livestock productivity. Furthermore, the party aims to create an $10 million Organic Advisory Service to assist farmers in transitioning to organic practices and meet certification requirements.
