300,000 coffee and cocoa farming families at risk of not complying with the European Union Regulation on Deforestation

(Agraria.pe) In the search for competitive and deforestation-free development in the coffee and cocoa production chains, Solidaridad and the Business Alliance for the Amazon (an initiative of USAID, the Government of Canada and Conservation International Peru), in the framework of the Coalition for Sustainable Production and the Cocoa, Forests and Diversity Agreement, carried out an “Impact Study: Of the European regulation of no deforestation in coffee and cocoa value chains” that evaluates the impacts on the chains of coffee and cocoa value by the European Union Regulation on deforestation-free products. In addition to seeking to comply with European regulation, the identified gaps are an opportunity to improve the profitability of producers via services that boost their productivity and quality and incentives for sustainable production, without deforesting the forest.
