The cost of making kimchi for a family of four has increased by over 8% compared to last year, due to a significant rise in the price of cabbage. The Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) reports that the cost was 335,356 won as of the previous day, 8.5% higher than the same period last year. This is due to the high cost of Chinese cabbage, the main ingredient, which has increased by 53.6% due to a decrease in supply. However, prices are expected to stabilize as the autumn cabbage harvest begins and the government is taking measures to increase the supply of major kimchi vegetables and reduce the burden on consumers.
