The Andalusian Government has committed over 4.7 million euros since last year to bolster the beekeeping industry, vital for biodiversity and rural economy, amidst economic and drought challenges. This sector, with 4,485 farms and over 600,000 hives, produces significant quantities of honey and beeswax, contributing nearly 33 million euros to the economy annually. The funding includes a 3.5 million euro aid program under the Strategic Plan of the Common Agricultural Policy 2023-2027 for various supports, and an additional 1.1 million euros in 2023 to mitigate the effects of the Ukrainian War and drought on 1,106 beekeepers. The sector's sustainability is threatened by low yields, health issues, climate change, and competition from cheap imports.
