According to the Peruvian National Service of Agrarian Health (Senasa), Peru has made its first export of 48 tons of frozen avocado pulp to China.

The avocados come from the Lambayeque, La Libertad, and Ancash regions and have undergone strict inspection by the Peruvian National Service of Agrarian Health to ensure they meet China's customs entry requirements.

The General Administration of Customs of China approved the entry of Peruvian frozen avocados, blueberries, and mangoes last year, with these fruits primarily targeting the catering, hotel, and supermarket channels. Peru is the world's second-largest avocado exporter, second only to Mexico. Data from the Peruvian Avocado Association (ProHass) shows that Peru's avocado exports are expected to exceed 670,000 tons this year, a 5% increase from the previous year, with export value exceeding $1.5 billion. Europe, the United States, and China remain the main export destinations for Peruvian avocados, with China having become an important consumer of Peruvian agricultural products in recent years.

Peru's avocado exports in 2024 showed atypical growth due to a significant drop in avocado production in Mexico, the main competitor. In the first quarter of this year, Peru exported 76,000 tons of fresh avocados, with an export value of $163 million, a decrease of 21% and 19%, respectively, compared to the same period last year. The reduction in fresh avocado exports is mainly due to the stabilization of international demand. The entry of frozen avocados into the Chinese market, from fresh avocados to frozen avocados, has provided more diversified market opportunities for Peru's small and medium-sized producers.
