5 million kg of Greek watermelons remained in the field

An extremely unpleasant situation has befallen watermelon producers in Greece. For days, millions of kilograms of ready harvest have remained in the fields due to the strike by PENEN (deck crew) members on Adriatic ships, reports the Greek website e-agrotis. To express the producers' distress and call for an immediate resolution of the problem, the National Union of Agricultural Cooperatives in Greece (ETHEAS) sent a letter to the ministries of shipping and island policy, rural development, and food. Enormous quantities, produced with great effort, are rotting in the fields due to export problems. The rise in temperatures will cause huge losses, the message states.
