At the World Trade Organization (WTO), members including Japan and Canada have raised concerns about India's agricultural subsidies and export restrictions. India has been questioned about its electricity subsidies for farmers, food security considerations in export decisions, and income support programs. Over 40 questions have been posed against India's policies implemented since 2022. Despite these concerns, India has continued to export rice and wheat, albeit with bans on certain types, to countries like Nepal and Mauritius. The Indian government has also provided significant input subsidies to low-income agricultural households, amounting to $48 billion for the 2022-2023 crop year.
