626 Hectares of Seaweed Farms Newly Developed in Border and Island Regions

The production area for seaweed will increase by 626 hectares in 2026. However, the seaweed aquaculture industry argues that strengthening illegal fishing crackdowns and expanding support for consumption promotion and market development should precede the expansion of farming areas. The government decided on the 3rd at an inter-ministerial meeting on prices to secure stable seaweed production sites and respond to increasing seaweed demand by developing 626 hectares of new seaweed farms in border and island regions such as Incheon and Gyeonggi.
