The Director-General of Thailand's Department of International Trade Negotiations has highlighted the resilience of the country's canned and processed seafood industry, even in a global economy marked by volatility. This resilience is attributed to the industry's ability to produce quality products and the benefits of Thailand's free trade agreements (FTAs). From January to August 2020, the industry experienced substantial growth in its exports, with canned tuna, processed fish, canned shrimp, and canned sardines seeing notable increases. These exports have been bolstered by tariff cancellations from 15 out of 18 FTA countries, including ASEAN. Thailand's canned and processed seafood industry is currently the world's second-largest after China and the leading exporter of canned tuna.
