On July 28, 2020, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in Denizli, Turkey, protected a 9.16 hectare area at Çakıroluk, within the Tavas district, due to its rich natural resources and the presence of the endemic Tavas frog (Rana tavasensis). This area has been declared a Nature Conservation Area under the National Parks Law No. 2873, with the aim to preserve cultural and recreational resources for future generations. A Species Action Plan was developed in 2019 to conserve the Tavas frog, involving habitat fencing, breeding, and awareness-raising efforts. Plans are underway to convert an old fire watchtower near the habitat into the Tavas Frog Rehabilitation and Research Center, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Forestry and Pamukkale University.
