The Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Food and Forestry in Bulgaria has approved a bill to amend the Water Act to provide compensation for irrigation water costs to agricultural producers from the state budget. The bill will establish "Irrigation Systems" EAD as the supplier of irrigation water to these producers, covering almost all of Bulgaria. The move aims to ensure fair distribution of water resources, sustainable and balanced water use, and maximum benefits for people and the environment, in the face of climate changes and limited water resources. The supply of water will be a continuous economic activity, regulated by the Ministry of Environment and Water, with the supplier requiring a complete irrigation system to ensure efficiency, quality, and access to water distribution for improving soil and crop water regime, thereby enhancing food security.
