In 2022, Cambodia exported 670,000 tons of raw cashew nuts, valued at 1.07 billion USD, primarily to Vietnam, which accounted for 98.5% of Cambodia's cashew exports. Vietnam's cashew industry is facing a challenge as it lacks sufficient domestic supply for its processing needs, necessitating the import of millions of tons of raw cashew nuts each year. The Vietnam Cashew Association (Vinacas) is proposing a plan to assess and plan cashew growing areas and is considering a partnership with Cambodia and Southern Laos to meet the demand for cashew material. Cambodia is implementing a national policy aimed at improving cashew quality and productivity to boost export competitiveness.
