A ban on crayfish catching in Ukrainian reservoirs will commence on December 1, 2022, to safeguard them during their mating and spawning season, as announced by the State Agency of Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine. The ban's duration will vary across areas depending on the weather. Violators may face penalties including fines and criminal prosecution, together with compensation for the fishery's losses. Once the ban is lifted, individuals can catch 30 crayfish per day. River crayfish can live up to 20 years, sexually mature in their third year, and lay eggs after seven months of gestation.
