Extreme weather conditions, including heavy rain, hail, and wind, have hit nine autonomous regions in Spain, with the south-eastern part of the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands being severely affected. The Almería region, specifically the El Ejido area, has seen over 4,000 hectares of driving surface damaged, with up to 20% of this year's pepper harvest potentially lost due to frostbite. The damage extends to cucumber, zucchini, and eggplant stocks, and there is also quality damage resulting in a high percentage of second-class products. The extreme weather has caused significant material damage and there is a lack of manpower to repair the foil tents, leaving producers to balance repairs with restocking.
