A case of African swine fever (ASF) has been confirmed in Bredasdorf, South Africa. The site in the Bredasdorf informal settlement remains under constant surveillance and guard 24/7 by the municipal security service, with law enforcement authorities implementing strict biosecurity measures, reported the City of Cape Agulhas. "Given the expected confirmation of ASF, continuous 24-hour surveillance must be maintained, and the movement of pigs from the site must remain absolutely prohibited," the municipality specified. Sources report that final laboratory results from the veterinary laboratory in Onderstepoort are still pending, but the symptoms and rapid spread strongly suggest that it is ASF. The quarantine was imposed on the afternoon of 30 July 2025, after 22 pig carcasses were found in and around a fence near the settlement.
