Russia: A device to protect grapes from fungal diseases has been created in Crimea

Scientists from the Crimean Research Institute of Agriculture (RIA) have received a patent for a device to combat fungal diseases of plants using ultraviolet radiation. This was reported to TASS by the Russian Ministry of Education and Science. It is noted that this is the first domestic development in the field of agricultural engineering to combat such plant diseases using ultraviolet radiation. The device was developed for use on plantations with grape plantations at the request of Crimean agricultural producers, since infection with pathogenic fungi is one of the most common causes of grape diseases. "The stated effect is achieved due to the fact that when UV radiation hits fungal pathogens, it causes irreparable damage to their DNA, which subsequently leads to their death. At the same time, the radiation dose is absolutely safe for the plant.
