The Minister of Supply and Internal Trade, Dr. Ali Al-Moselhi, has made statements regarding the provision of fair priced food commodities, addressing monopoly and greed of traders. The government has a strategic stockpile of wheat sufficient for 4.3 months and plans to purchase 6 million tons of local wheat during the supply season, with farmers receiving 36 billion pounds. The price of bread is expected to return to pre-crisis levels within 48 hours. The government will determine the price of wheat supplied to the private sector mills, which will determine the price of flour supplied to bakeries. There are ongoing monitoring campaigns to address monopoly and violators will face fines of up to 2 million pounds, in addition to confiscation and re-issuing of seized goods through official outlets.
