During the Christmas and New Year holidays, most families in our country place pork on their tables. The tradition of slaughtering pigs during this period of the year is still alive in the rural areas of the country. However, there are a number of requirements that owners of domestic pigs must comply with to ensure that they eat food that will not cause them problems. According to the Veterinary Medicine Act, owners of domestic pigs that are raised in the so-called backyard must notify the veterinarian serving their livestock within no later than 24 hours before the slaughter of animals intended for personal consumption. This is evident from the information provided by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency to Agri.BG.
