A new rabbit farm has been opened in the Novoorsk region of the Orenburg region, with an initial population of 5,500 New Zealand White rabbits. The farm is expected to produce 500 tons of meat annually, with production set to begin in late June. The Federal Center for Agroanalysts believes there is potential for increased domestic consumption of rabbit meat, driven by the baby food and healthy food segments. In 2019, the Orenburg region had a total rabbit population of about 67,000, with half kept in agricultural organizations. Rabbit meat production in the region has doubled since 2015, reaching 0.4 thousand tons.
