In January, Norway experienced a significant surge in seafood exports, with a 26% increase in value compared to the same period last year, reaching NOK 10.3 billion, despite challenges such as bad weather and logistical issues. Salmon was the primary driver of this growth, accounting for 70% of the total value and setting a January record both in value and volume. Other fish like cod, saithe, and trout also saw increased values, with cod achieving an 82% value increase and trout a 57% increase. However, wild-caught seafood volumes and values decreased by 17% and 26%, respectively, due to challenges like weather and quota limitations. The United States, France, and Poland were the top markets for salmon, while Thailand, Japan, and the USA were the largest markets for trout. Cod also had a strong start, with high prices and increased demand. Despite the challenges, the industry remains optimistic about the market demand and prices for many products.
