A team of global researchers identifies drought resistance in peas

CÓRDOBA, Nov. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) - A research team from the Institute of Sustainable Agriculture (IAS) of the CSIC in Córdoba, the Portuguese Catholic University and the Agricultural University of Wageningen (Netherlands) has characterized the response to drought of a collection of 340 different types of peas. As reported by the Discover Foundation in a note, this will allow us to understand the physiological and molecular mechanisms responsible for the response to drought, and will facilitate the obtaining of new, better adapted varieties that allow the productivity of this crop in the face of climate change. The irregularity of rainfall and the rise in temperatures means great losses for dryland agriculture. Researchers are trying to locate crop varieties that allow them to be maintained with lower water consumption and that better withstand the consequences of the current climate situation.
