Cereal production in the European Union is projected to decline by 4.7% in 2024, with an output of 257.3 million tonnes due to reduced yields and sown areas. Wheat and barley production have notably decreased, while corn remains stable and oats have increased. Severe droughts in southern Europe are exacerbating the situation, although Spain has seen a production increase. The outlook for oilseeds is stable with higher yields despite a slight decrease in area. Globally, the FAO has adjusted cereal production forecasts slightly upwards to 2,840 million tonnes. Copa-Cogeca warns that adverse weather conditions could further worsen the situation.
