A year later: Irrigation with a meager effect

Access to irrigation water remains critical, and the share of irrigated land in Bulgaria dramatically lags behind European values. Survey results from Agri.BG with a similar question but in two different years indicate that during the irrigation season of 2025, the majority of farmers in the country who responded to the survey (60%) again do not have access to irrigation water because their area lacks irrigation channels. Survey 2024: What access to irrigation water did you have this summer? Survey 2025: What access to irrigation water did you have this year? At the same time, only 7% have managed to use "Irrigation Systems" without interruptions, and the share of those with interruptions in water supply is growing compared to 2024. The share of farmers who draw water from unregistered wells also remains significant – about 10%.
