In Adana, Turkey, the peanut harvest has commenced with a notable 30 percent increase in both cultivation area and expected yield compared to the previous year. Adana, which contributes nearly half of Turkey's peanut production, began its first harvest in the Karataş district. Producers are currently threshing peanuts after drying them for several days. Peanuts are the fourth most produced oilseed plant in Turkey, with Adana producing 89 thousand tons out of the country's 185 thousand tons last year. Increased production this year is attributed to favorable peanut prices in previous years. Mehmet Nuri Kökçüoğlu, the Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, emphasized the economic significance of peanuts for Adana, noting their diverse uses. The harvest, following the watermelon season, is expected to conclude by early October.
