In the first two months of 2022, Peruvian ginger exports experienced a decline of 18.8%, totaling US$14,633,000 due to oversupply, as reported by the Agroexports Manager of the Exporters Association (ADEX), Susana Yturry Farge. The drop in prices was attributed to the increase in producers following Peru's position as the third-largest ginger exporter in 2020. ADEX and the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (Midagri) are now advocating for feasibility studies to plan ginger crops. The United States was the leading destination for Peruvian ginger in the first two months of 2022, followed by the Netherlands. ADEX member company, Elisur Organic S.A.C., is organizing Ginger Week 2022 to foster ginger cultivation and is also taking steps to prevent potential pest issues.
