El Salvador has seen a significant drop in its coffee bean export volume and value in the first four months of the 2023/24 coffee harvest season, according to the El Salvador Coffee Institute. The country exported 44,900 tons of coffee beans, marking a 46.9% decrease from the same period in the previous season, and the export value was US$9.8 million, a 50.2% decrease. The United States remains the largest buyer, accounting for 47% of total exports. The decline is attributed to a reduction in production, with factors such as climate change, low coffee futures prices, and labor shortages impacting the industry.
