The Competitive Cashew Initiative (ComCashew) has highlighted the potential of the cashew processing industry to boost African economies by creating more jobs and wealth by increasing the domestic processing of raw cashew nuts. The industry has the potential to create an additional 200,000 jobs and generate over US$3.3 billion in value. However, challenges such as low competitiveness and lack of appropriate policies are hindering its growth. ComCashew is advocating for concerted efforts to transform the industry. The Cashew Master Training Programme, a partnership between ComCashew and the African Cashew Alliance, is designed to increase the theoretical knowledge and practical skills of African cashew experts along the value chain. George Nkrumah Sarpong, an exhibitor at the programme, called on the government to develop innovative funding schemes to transform the local cashew processing industry in Ghana.
