Fishermen in the Samsun region of Turkey are facing challenges due to climatic problems and increased fuel prices, with their income being heavily dependent on the anchovy season which ended earlier than expected due to changing climates and migration routes. Their only hope now is the upcoming sprat season, which usually provides them with a significant portion of their annual catch of 40-50 thousand tons. Last year, they managed to catch only 25 thousand tons. Sprats are an essential fish for both human consumption and for feeding other fish in farms, and their presence in the sea is seen as a positive sign for the upcoming season.
