[Reporter Hong Lan, Korea Farmers and Fishermen Newspaper] The National Institute of Forest Science under the Korea Forest Service observed water quality changes after pruning in a pine nut forest and found that while particulate matter increased initially, it recovered within three years. The research team from the Urban Forest Research Center at the National Institute of Forest Science monitored a pine nut plantation in Jikdong-ri, Soheul-eup, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggi-do, from 2017 to 2021 over a period of five years. The research team pruned 50% of the forest and applied cable yarding methods to minimize surface disturbance during tree transportation. The research team stated, "The analysis results showed that the watershed where pruning was carried out had an increase in particulate matter mass during the initial two years."
