In recent years, implementing the policy of restructuring the agricultural sector, many localities in the Mekong Delta region have boldly transformed their production, strongly developing aquaculture. Among these, crab farming has become a sustainable livelihood, contributing to increasing income for farmers. Located at the southernmost tip of the country, Cà Mau province is not only known for its thousand-year-old mangrove forests and intertwined rivers but also famous for its specialty crab farming, creating the "Năm Căn Crab" brand for this saltwater land. In 2015, Năm Căn Crab - Cà Mau was granted a Collective Trademark Registration Certificate. In 2021, Năm Căn Crab continued to be honored in the top 100 Vietnamese specialties. Crab farming is concentrated in three communes: Đất Mới, Năm Căn, and Tam Giang of Cà Mau province, with a total farming area of about 25,000 hectares.
