The agriculture council at the World Trade Organization (WTO) has called out China's unjustified trade restrictions on fruits from Taiwan and lack of transparency in trading regulations. Despite Taiwan's compliance with international trade norms and improvements in packaging processes, China continues to ban imports of pineapples, custard apples, wax apples, and citrus fruits from Taiwan. Despite multiple requests for explanations, China has remained unresponsive. This issue is among nine trade concerns raised by Taiwan, Canada, Australia, the United States, Japan, and the European Union at the WTO since 2020. The agriculture council insists that trade regulations should be based on unbiased, factual data rather than political motivations.
