Fertilization in northern Argentina is still very much a "black box." In general, nutrients such as phosphorus are not analyzed, and even less so are micronutrients. With very little local information, fertilization decisions are based on historical schemes, without considering the variability between lots and campaigns. This is especially relevant in soils where pH, organic matter, and agricultural history strongly condition the real availability of nutrients. Thus, deficiencies go unnoticed and the system silently forfeits potential. In this scenario, a group of producers from northern Santiago del Estero founded the Chacra Aapresid La Paloma, which works with specialists Octavio Caviglia from CONICET, Prieto, Berton, Luna, and Druetta from INTA, to achieve sustainable production. Among other strategies, they do so by adjusting nutrition in crops such as corn, soybean, and cotton.
