The Ministry of Agriculture in Egypt is planning to code pomegranate farms in Lower and Lower Egypt as part of a process to enable reverse tracking of shipments to global markets. This initiative, conducted by the 'Agricultural Quarantine' Department, will cover around 2,500 facilities involved in production, collection, packing, and sorting. The number of pomegranates exported is projected to double to 20,000 tons by the end of 2024. Exports have seen a significant increase in recent years, with a report confirming a rise in overall export volumes from 3 million tons to 3.3 million tons from January to May 2024. Egyptian pomegranates are primarily harvested in Upper Egypt and exported to countries like Iraq.
