In the face of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Peru's agriculture sector has demonstrated resilience by ensuring food availability domestically and experiencing a modest growth in international agricultural exports. From January to May 2020, these exports amounted to $2.42 billion, showing a 0.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Non-traditional products, particularly fruits and vegetables, saw a notable 9.4% increase in exports, reaching $1.527 billion. These commodities accounted for 63% of the total exports during this period. The top exports included fresh grapes, avocados, mangoes, asparagus, garlic, and various beans. There was also a significant rise in the exports of other non-traditional products such as quinoa, semi-milled rice, and ginger. The United States, the Netherlands, Spain, Ecuador, Colombia, England, Chile, China, Hong Kong, and Mexico were the main importers of Peruvian agricultural products. The Ministries of Agriculture and Irrigation (Minagri) forecasts that agricultural exports could reach around $8,000 million by the end of the year, contributing to Peru's economic growth and food security.
