More than 8,000 alpaca producers from Arequipa, Puno, Cusco, and Pasco have strengthened their productive capacity and access to markets thanks to a project executed by the Rural Agro Program, aimed at increasing the added value of alpaca fiber and boosting the rural economy in the Andean south. The intervention, which has been running since February 2023 and will extend until February 2027, has an investment of S/23.3 million and seeks to improve the quality of the fiber, promote its artisanal transformation, and strengthen the productive management of families dedicated to raising alpacas. Among the main results achieved, 17,940 technical assistances in fleece management and shearing have been provided, and 19 shearing centers equipped with appropriate infrastructure and technology have been implemented, which has allowed the elevation of the product's quality standards.
